Singing in the Rain

Singing in the Rain

I have decided to start a small series based off of movies. My home church here at school does this, and it has a great impact. So for the next few weeks, we'll be looking at small lessons that can be learned from movies and taken with you.

Now I also have to admit that this whole sermon is not an original to me, but it was wisdom passed down from a leader in my life. Wisdom that seems necessary to pass to you all. This is a change of pace from what we have been working with here in this blog, but God can work in short doses as well.

Psalm 118:24
This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

If you are reading this blog, then in fact you did wake up this morning. God's blessings began at that moment. When I woke up this morning I looked outside to what looked like a day full of rain. I threw on my rain jacket, but got excited because I get to wear my new cowboy boots.

How often do we focus on the negative instead of the positive that is going on in our lives? The rain comes out and we think of how many plans it cancels. We talk about how getting from class to class or from the car to the workplace is going to be a pain. We have to carry a rain jacket or umbrella which is just another burden.

In this Psalm, the psalmist writes that THIS is the day that the Lord has made. That's right, today, not sunshine yesterday or spring break tomorrow. Granted... He made those too, but TODAY is the day that He chose for us. TODAY is the day that we get to spend basking in His glory. A chance to go around and sing in the rain of His great love for us.

In the 1952 musical, Singing in the Rain, one of the main characters is Cosmo, played by Donald O'Connor. Cosmo is a comedian and best friend, always looking at the bright side of things. In fact, Cosmo has a solo song entitled, Make 'Em Laugh. This song focuses on the joy of life. Cosmo adds a light feel to the musical and doesn't aim to be the attention of every scene, but his positive attitude adds so much to all he is involved in.

So if today seems dismal, or this week seems like a drag. Look for the bright side of things. I woke up with my rain jacket and cowboy boots on. I was determined to have a fantastic day, and lemme tell you guys, God has blessed this day tremendously. And wouldn't you know it, it's turned into a beautiful day of sunshine!

Please, go outside into THIS day that the Lord has made. Rejoice! He gave you breath this morning to wake up, and what better way to spend it then by giving it back in praise to His great name.

Have a great day, and thanks for reading!
